I know a couple of people do this via the penalty runs or enter it as the 1st batter score without listing a batter name. You can add the historical match fixture and then go into the scorecard and just enter the team total as the runs. It seems to work fine.
Just tried that and it works, although you need one further step and whilst there are no batsmen's names or scores, you need to put a method of dismissal against the number of wickets lost. The unassigned wickets goes against the bowling figures and not the batting team total. eg our highest 1st Grade score is 9/490 so just needed to have nine batsmen shown as caught.
Top work. One very minor thing is that I was entering thousands of matches (I used the API t make it easier), but didn't want to ruin the output of the various "Howout" reports, and so added "Unknown" instead of "Caught". But that's only minor

When you go into match creation it has the start date and time which is this calendar year, then the end date which you can put the historical date in
How do I get around the start date and enter in a historical start date
You can change the start date and time to be anything. Are you unable to edit it?
I was using an old iPad and it wouldnt let me do it but I have now gone onto an updated version and it has let me alter the date.
How much detail do you have to put in the match report before it will accept it
I have entered in the score in the penalty runs but it is asking me for player details
You can leave all the player details blank. No need to enter their names or scores.
All good. I just hadn’t approved the match and locked the game.
just one further thing.
when I go into the report for highest innings totals it shows that innings as no wickets lost eg 0/496.
Anyway to change that to represent the actual wickets lost to get to that total
Sorry, I know I’m being a pain

Thanks @Pat Culpan
Here's one that @Paul Reynolds has done:
https://www2.cricketstatz.com/ss/w.aspx?club=4530&mode=100&match=352688
He's used the first batter to enter the runs but not added a batter's name. He's also added one unknown dismissal for each wicket.
Here is how mine looks Match Report 432039 - Valley Dist Cricket Club (cricketstatz.com)
In the game I am looking at, I have the team scoring 10/497.
I put caught for ten batsman, 10 Unassigned wickets/Runouts and 497 Pen Runs and it comes up on the highest innings totals report as 10/497
many thanks for the assist fellas
Excellent. Just a tip - it turns out you don't need to put anything in the Unassigned Wickets/Runouts.
