"Pools" are a simple yet powerful feature in Cricket Statz that allow you to filter and combine matches into custom reporting.
How are Pools implemented in Cricket Statz?
Every match and every historical data entry has a free text field called "Pool". This is where you can enter any text as a Pool name to assign this name on a match by match basis. Any Pool name entered then becomes a Pool filter option for reports.
How can I use this?
If you want to combine stats from matches from say two or three divisions then you can do this using a Pool. Go to the matches, enter a common pool name across all of the matches you wish to combine. Then go to reports and the pool name you entered will appear in the Pool drop down filter - select this pool and it will only show results/stats from those matches.
You can do this for historical data as well.
Limitations
The pool names are not case sensitive, so pool named "Fred" = "FRED" = "fred"
You can have only one pool per match.
All of the matches need to be in the one database. You cannot combine results from other databases.
Mark
I would like to use the Pool facility - I can see this as way to produce reports for all Competitive Games, excluding Friendlies for example. But the big problem is that I have a database of over 2500 matches at the moment and to update the Pool field for each match would be near impossible. The V11 software allowed you to select more than one Division (I use this field to identify the Competition in which my Club particpates) but I don't see how to do this in the Online software.
Hi Brian - please raise that as a new suggestion in the suggestion forum. Thanks
Mark do you know of a current site that uses this pool facility I can peruse.
My Army database does not have anything against them, infact on the results page it just shows Pool - "all".
Also would I have to submit say y Army Women's database to you to be added ?
Hi Vic,
As soon as you start adding a pool name to a match then it will appear in the drop-down filter for reporting. Until you do this, it will only say "all". Try it - just pick a match (fixture) and enter some text in for the pool. Save the match fixture. Then go to your reports and you will see that text appear in the filter option for Pools. You can then clear out the text box afterwards on the match and it will disappear.
I will see if I can find a database that you can look at. From memory, Cricket Leinster were using pools.
As for Women's - yes, if you wanted that combined in your database then you could send it to support@cricketstatz.com and I can do the initial upload it for you. Just let us know what Pool name you want assigned to it and we can add that in as it uploads. However, word of caution, all of the Women's results will appear mixed with the mens by default. Consequently - It may be better to keep the Women's database separated online. (Unless of course you have some mixed matches happening)
Cricket Leinster has two pools set up:

Ah I get it I think, however I was under the impression pools were about combining all my Army scorecards, Seniors, Development, Women etc together.
Without having to do each match individually, how can I creat a pool for my 1000 plus matches ?
So in effect pool is just for one individual database.
Hi Vic,
It certainly is about having all of your databases combined - where it makes sense to combine them.
If the women never play with the men then you will never run off joint stats reports so there is no point in having them combined.
So the simple rule is probably - combine the areas where you expect you will want to be seeing combined stats. If you don't ever do combined stats, then keep the online databases separate.
Ok I think I would prefer them seperate as they are all of a certain entity.
One more query on pool, I have created a few matches that way, I showed a FC - First class matches, and IS - Inter Services matches, but what if some Inter Services are FC and others just Limited Overs for example ? Unlike my v11 software, I cannot combined 3/4 divisions together for one report/scores/stats ?
If you simply want to select multiple divisions/grades then be sure to vote for this suggestion by clicking the "heart" icon: https://www.cricketstatz.com/support-forum/suggestions/reporting-for-a-selection-of-divisions
Is putting the pool text on each individual match the only way to do this ?
For existing matches, yes. If we are uploaded new databases from v11 then I can tag them all with a given pool name when we do the publish to online.
