Just wondering how others on here handle it when opposition clubs decide to change their club name?
Noting our database is setup in single club mode.
When recently adding some matches from years ago to our database and finding a new opposition club I hadn’t really thought about it much and just added the new club, but then after finding some old Association year books and in them found some articles indicating some clubs that I thought were new clubs were actually still the same club having simply changed their club name.
So I was wondering do you:
Have the the one “club” name setup but then have 2 different “team” names associated with the club using each of the club names - this would enable to report against each team but also the one club
Just have the seperate club names with their respective team names like I have been previously doing - this would have each club and team reported separately
On top of this what do you do with club mergers? Once again I’ve just created a new club each time and keep it separated from the previous merged clubs.
Hi Joel - since you haven't had an answer then I throw my opinion in.
If it is opposition clubs and you don't want to run club stats for them then it is fine to create a new club or team each time they change their name.
(If it was your own club then I would encourage you not to do this so you can maintain club history/stats - in which case it would be a matter of changing the name but putting a note in old matches to let viewers know that the club was called "X" at the time)
Thanks for the reply Mark. I agree that we just create a new club name each time this occurs, as we are not running any stats for that club.
As for own club we did actually form as the result of a merger from 2 other clubs quite a while ago. The consensus at the time was that all club records would start afresh eg Team highest scores, most centuries, best bowling, partnerships etc but the individual career records from each player from the previous clubs would be carried over to the new club in your individual stats eg Matches played, runs scored and wickets taken for the club.
