Hi Mark, I have two players with identical first initial and surname, they both only only have a singular first name. Is there anyway I can import them in to the database via MyCricket for it to pick the correct player? They are brother/sister so would never appear in the same team or game.

If they have identical names in MyCricket scorecards yet they play for different clubs then they will get picked up differently during an import.
If they have identical names in MyCricket scorecard and they play for the same club then the import will not be able to split them and they will be treated as the same player.
Damn, I was hoping the External ID may have been able to split them, as yes, they do play for the same club.
The problem with using the ExternalID is that it only shows up on the MyCricket scorecard where there are links. Sections with no links (such as the FOW section and the bowling/fielding names on the batting scorecards) don't have any link - so I can't pick up the ExternalID.
There would be two possible ways to solve this, but both would require significant recoding (and the MyCricket site is destined to change anyway when they change providers).
I am not sure it is worth it for the 1 or 2 players where this is a problem.
In any case, feel free to post up a suggestion along the lines of "Use externalID to identify players with same name during MyCricket import" and let's see if it is popular.
Thanks Mark, you are right, I have only had the issue occur for one set of players so not too hard to change manually. I'd much rather get my suggestion for being able to input historical hattricks into the database as this is the only major stat not available on the website for our 124 year history :)
Pat - i had this same issue with two brothers at our club with the same first initial and importing them from MyCricket into CS each week. Sensibly they both had different second initials so i was able to amend their MyCricket records and that fixed the problem when importing. If both also have the same 2nd initial (bad parents...) then only give one of them a 2nd initial in MyCricket.
Joel - Or equally bad parents that did not give either of them a middle name. All my players are loaded in MyCricket with both first and subsequent middle names (I have mandated the provision of a middle name when players register.)
I've created bogus middle names for players in MyCricket to get around this issue as well if they don't have a 2nd initial ...
